(Patria) - Slovenian Tadej Pogačar continued to shine in 2024 and won the World Road Cycling Championship for the first time in his career.
Pogačar dominated the competition in Zurich and became the first Slovenian to become world champion in road cycling.
In the road race around Zurich, on a 273.9 km course with almost 4,500 meters of altitude, Pogačar was the first to reach Sechseläutenplatz after six hours and 27 minutes of racing, thus writing history for Slovenian and world cycling.
He became the first Slovenian to win the World Championship road race and also only the third cyclist to win the Tour de France, the Giro d'Italia, and the World Championship road race in a single season.
Before him, only Edy Merckx (1974) and Stephen Roche (1987) managed this.
Second place and the world silver medal today were won by Australian Ben O'Connor, and third by Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel.
