In Montenegro, hurricane-force winds: 14 people rescued from snow

(Patria) - In a successful operation coordinated through the Operational-Communication Center 112, in cooperation with the Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service and the Žabljak Protection and Rescue Service, 14 people who were stuck in the snow were rescued on Sunday in three operations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Montenegro announced.

“Seven citizens of Bangladesh and two citizens of the Russian Federation were rescued in the territory of the municipality of Žabljak, and five Montenegrin citizens were rescued at the Krnovo site. Through the Operational-Communication Center 112 system, the snowbound individuals were located and information was sent to the services, and thanks to the quick reaction of the Protection and Rescue Services, all were safely evacuated,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.

In Ulcinj, in addition to snow, the strongest, hurricane-force gusts of over 100 kilometers per hour were recorded yesterday, while in Podgorica the wind blew with an intensity of 95 to 100 kilometers per hour. Throughout Montenegro during the weekend, trees fell, as did facades in several cities.

The Protection and Rescue Service of the Capital City is appealing to citizens today as well to go out of their homes as little as possible while the strong winds persist.

The Meteo Center of Vijesti Television announced that a gradual decrease in wind strength is expected on Tuesday, January 14.
