(Patria) - The 41-year-old truck driver, who hit three girls in Lovran yesterday, killing one, has been criminally charged with negligence for failing to maintain the truck's parts, causing the death and injuries of pedestrians, the police announced today.
The Opatija police conducted a criminal investigation into the 41-year-old driver, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Administration announced.
The driver is suspected of having caused the fatal injury and wounding of pedestrians through negligence, "by not maintaining the work devices in proper condition and not acting according to regulations or technical rules on protective measures".
He has been criminally charged before the competent state attorney's office for a serious offense against general safety, related to the offense of endangering life and property by a generally dangerous act or means, and has been handed over to the detention supervisor, the Primorje-Gorski Kotar Police Administration announced.
The suspected 41-year-old driver was driving a truck with a concrete pump from the direction of Medveja towards Opatija yesterday.
In Lovran, around 10:20 AM, due to improper securing of a movable part, a metal stabilizer, so-called leg, of the truck detached and hit pedestrians walking on the sidewalk in the same direction as the truck, the police stated.
A 22-year-old woman died at the scene of the accident, a 28-year-old female pedestrian was injured, and a third, 22-year-old female pedestrian, escaped unharmed, the Police Administration added.
