Becirovic: Friar Markovic was right – HZ HB is the biggest failure of Croat politics

Mostar saw marking the anniversary of self-proclaimed Croat community of Herzeg-Bosnia. The event was also attended by the President of HDZ BiH and the member of the President BiH, Dragan Covic.  

- Today, across BiH and Croatia, candles are being lit, we are remembering past, hard times, historical times. HZ HB is the time of our pride, it has enormous importance', Covic told journalists. He said that, if it was not for HZ HB, there would have not been Croat people.

SDP's delegate in the Parliament of BiH, Denis Becirovic, evaluated Covic's appearance at the marking of the HZ HB anniversary – 'shameful'.

This is another confirmation that Dragan Covic only pretends to be the politician who respects European values, while in practice he is an advocate of criminal politics. It is the high time to say it, loud and clear. Enough of hiding the truth, Becirovic said. He emphasized that 'marking the anniversary of self-proclaimed and illegal Croat republic of Herzeg-Bosnia is unacceptable antidemocratic, anticonstitutional act against civilization'. Such immoral act, Becirovic thinks, only glorifies mass crime and ethnic cleansing.

- At the same time, it offends the victims as the illegal para creation Herzeg-Bosnia is a result of joint criminal action aimed at dividing the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Becirovic explains.

Becirovic thinks that 'one of the best evaluations of so-called Herzeg-Bosnia was given by Friar Ivo Markovic, professor at Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo'.

- At the core of Herzeg-Bosnia's politics is a ‘great Serbia’ project that was also accepted by Franjo Tudjman. Any intelligent person in Croatia and here in BiH knows that was the biggest failure of the politics of newly established Croat state, and that politics has persisted ever since. That politics systematically destroys BH society, preventing its integration into Europe. That politics directly cooperates with great Serbia project in Republika Srpska and it does not advocate for Bosnian Croats in any way, Becirovic asserts.

Becirovic thinks it hypocritical and perfidious of Covic to 'convince some local and international naive political factors that he truly advocates for wholesome, democratic and European state Bosnia and Herzegovina'.

- It is the high time for us to understand that Covic respect for BiH is lip service paid, while in practice, year after year, he only makes moves aimed at dismembering and dividing the state, Becirovic said.

Becirovic emphasized that 'illegal Herzeg-Bosnia was marked as an outcome of joint criminal endeavor in the verdict of The Hague Tribunal to its leadership, which was sentenced to more than 100 years in prison'.

- So-called Herzeg-Bosnia, Becirovic says, left behind mass graves and mass crimes. Ahmici, Heliodrom, Dretelj, Vranica, as well as nonCroat citizens from Stolac, Capljina, Mostar, Prozor, Ljubuski, parts of Central Bosnia, Zepce, Posavina, deprived of their rights and evicted from their homes are witnesses of those crimes.

- Bosnia and Herzegovina, he thinks, should turn to the future, development, economy, education and working to fulfill criteria for accelerated accession to Euroatlantic unions. Bosniaks, Croats, Serbs and Others should build a better Bosnia and Herzegovina with more justice and equality for all its people. In such a state, Becirovic concludes, there mustn't be room for glorifying criminals and their criminal projects.
