Between fake diplomas and fake people: We don't want any migrants

Commentary by Sead Omeragic

While the number of migrants in the Bosniak populated part of the country keeps growing, the Bosniak politicians keep silent like a fish. They don't even shy away from firing critiques at Dodik and Covic who have been persecuting migrants in a most brutal and racist manner, beating them up, locking them up in cages, even killing them.

Strategy of Serbia and Croatia is to amass migrants in BiH, and Dodik and Covic as their obedient servants are helping them achieve that. Our elected local leaders (as always) are not part of the solution but part of the problem.

The mayor of Bihac Suhret Fazlic is in the worst situation. The word is politicians' main chief weapon but the stuff that has spilled out about the migrants is catastrophic. 'Eloquently' like Suhret other local leaders too slap Bosnia in its face. It's beginning to look like a contest – who is going to embarrass this country more?!

There's a growing number of those who wouldn't let the migrants to the collective centers nearby their municipal kingdom. In a recent TV interview the mayor of Tuzla Jasmin Imamovic requested that the migrants be moved out of Tuzla. 'We are noble people', he promised, while the migrants sleep outside, in rain and cold. Later in the interview we learned that Imamovic didn't even want the migrants in the barracks in Ljubace. Where's that noble place he talks about?

The mayor of Hadzici Hamdo Ejubovic says that he will not have 250 migrants in the barracks Usivak near Hadzici. As if they are infected by some disease called racism, other local leaders also reject migrants. And while they do appear in public, their party leaders keep silent as a fish.

The migrant crisis has made us wonder about our leaders, from top down. They show a critical lack of ability, competence, even empathy. When faced with floods back in 2014, they also showed a serious lack of competence and skill. The same was with the problem of youth leaving the country and now the migrant crisis.

Anybody can enter politics. There are no criteria, no filters. Even uneducated, incompetent and incomplete persons. They make public appearances feeling no shame for their incomplete, contradictory sentences which lack any sense. Their public appearance 'radiates' primitivism. Those folks are given the authority over public budgets and treat is as if it is their own wallet.

We hoped that the investigation over fake university diplomas would cut down the budget spending. Some say that there are more than 30.000 fake diplomas in BiH and they are all employed by the public administration and well paid. Where else could they end up with their fake diplomas but among the budget parasites? They got their good jobs through party lines. Some also say that quite a number of high ranking officials in the executive power are owners of fake diplomas. Is that the cause of all the disasters so far, including the one involving migrants.

If not a fake diploma, then most of these highly educated masters and PhDs from the Federation got their degrees from highly esteemed universities in Pale and East Sarajevo.

Since we are wondering why the judiciary remains the problem of this country, we should just check how many legal experts from the Federation passed their bar exams in the Republika Srpska. A future judge has explained that as a 'better job prospect' given that VSTV (The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council) is Dodik's and Covic's institution.

In the last mandate of Council of Ministers, SDA took three weakest ministries. It is highly unlikely they could do better now in partnership with DF and SBB. Dodik will in this mandate gain four positions – three ministers and the Prime Minister Zoran Tegeltija. When they all take their seats, the hell will break loose.

I remember a conflict between SDA and the foursome that left that party before the General elections in 2018. In the midst of quarrels, debates and exchange of accusations, the SDA leader Bakir Izetbegovic said the following about one of the four 'rebels' Sadik Ahmetovic: 'SDA gave him everything. We showed good will, we took him in, even though he's not really talented. We even gave him the position of the security minister, but he wanted more'.

I've never heard something so tragic. So, if you lack 'talent and skills', you will get everything from the party and in order to show good will, it will promote you up to a minister's position.

There're no parents who could give their children what their parties give them. Nobody's then surprised about fake diplomas as political parties falsify all social values. Unless we sort out this political rashomon, we will never heal as a society. Unless there are right people on right places – there's no moral, no progress. There's only a crisis such as the migrant one.

The migrant situation has only revealed that in the politics, besides fake diplomas, there are too many fake people.
