KS Government Ensures Better Healthcare for Veterans Through Preventive Medical Check-up Program

(Patria) - The Government of Sarajevo Canton has made a significant decision by adopting the Program for Preventive Medical Check-ups for Veterans for 2025. For this initiative, which aims at early detection and adequate treatment of health problems within the veteran population, 400,000.00 BAM has been allocated. This step follows an alarming increase in the need for healthcare among this group of citizens.

The program is the result of an initiative by the KS Government from April 4, 2024, and is being implemented in cooperation between the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs and the Ministry of Health of Sarajevo Canton. The demands of the Association of Unified Fighters "Veterans' Union" KS were also considered during the program's development. Positive experiences from the implementation of a similar program in 2024 were also taken into account.

The Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of Sarajevo Canton continuously works on improving healthcare for veterans in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and public health institutions.

As stated by the relevant minister, Omer Osmanović, alarming data on the increased need for healthcare further emphasize the importance of this program.

"In the first seven days since the public announcement for additional veteran benefits for 2025, as many as 2,170 applications have been received. Between 2021 and 2024, an increase of up to 130% in requests for treatment assistance was recorded, and the increase in requests for assistance in cases of serious illness by 60% is particularly alarming," the minister stated.

The main goal of the preventive medical check-up program is the timely identification of potential health problems among veterans, and their timely referral for specialist examinations and adequate treatment.

"With the systematic check-up program for the veteran population, the current engagement of the KS Ministry of Health in strengthening preventive health policies strongly suggests support for all initiatives that contribute to improving citizens' healthcare, including our war veterans," emphasized the KS Minister of Health, Enis Hasanović.

For the implementation of this significant program, the KS Ministry for Veterans' Affairs has allocated funds in the amount of 400,000 BAM.

As in previous years, the program will be implemented through the Coordination Board of Veteran Associations of KS.
