BHRT Management Board: The situation is worsening, institutional reaction is lacking

(Patria) - The Management Board of Radio Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT) stated at today's session that the critical financial situation of BHRT is further deteriorating, and that the willingness of domestic authorities, as well as international factors, to stop the agony of this media house is still lacking.

The Management Board and management of BHRT have taken all actions within their competencies, but the result is lacking. The High Representative, the Delegation of the European Union, domestic institutions, and the public have been informed about the situation in order to prevent the shutdown of BHRT.

BHRT is facing the threat of a possible blockade by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) due to a debt of over 20 million KM. At the same time, warnings are coming from suppliers and creditors – the Tax Administration, Elektroprivreda, BH-Gas, and others.

BHRT has won three first-instance judgments before the District Commercial Court in Banja Luka in lawsuits against RTRs for the unpaid portion of RTV tax revenue. Although this is an encouraging step, the path to a final solution is long.

Due to the non-functioning of the System Committee, the RTV tax has not been adjusted for inflation since 2013, and the insistence of BHRT and RTV Federation of BiH for the Communications Regulatory Agency to propose a new RTV tax rate has not yielded results to date.

The Management Board adopted the Program Report for last year, with the statement that the program is significantly higher quality than the conditions under which it was realized. The members of the Management Board thanked Valentina Rupčić for her work so far, who submitted an irrevocable resignation on January 30, 2026.

The mandate of the Management Board members expired in June last year, but the election of a new composition has not yet been put on the agenda of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
