(Patria) - Ukraine has resumed exporting electricity to Europe, after a suspension in October when Russia began regular missile and drone attacks on critical energy infrastructure, the Ukrainian Minister of Energy said late last night.
Due to the Russian army's strikes, there were electricity shortages for civilians and industrial facilities, so workers tried to repair the grid through overtime work.
- We have resumed exports - said the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, adding that Russia "failed to destroy our energy system".
The European Union is the main Ukrainian market for energy exports.
Galushchenko emphasized that the electricity supply to the Ukrainian population remains the country's priority despite the resumption of exports, reports SEEbiz.
- We hope to reach the export volumes we had last year. We will negotiate to increase exports as well, because the current reserves in the system allow us to do so - he added.
In June 2022, Ukraine exported electricity to Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland. Ukraine hopes to earn 1.5 billion euros from electricity exports to the EU by the end of the year.
