(Patria) - The world's steepest cable car, connecting the villages of Stechelberg and Mürren in the Swiss region of Bernese Oberland, began carrying passengers yesterday.
The route above the steep cliffs of Mürrenfluh, with a gradient of 159.4 percent, takes only four minutes.
The cable car climbs 775 meters along a path that is 1,194 meters long. Each of the two cable car cabins can carry 85 passengers.
Schilthornbahn AG says that the cable car, which travels at a speed of seven meters per second, can transport 800 people per hour when operating at full capacity.
