On the occasion of the International Environment Protection Day, the first exhibition of artistic objects made from recycled cigarette butts, titled "From Cigarette Butts to Art," will be held on Monday at the Collegium Artisticum premises as part of the project "Environment and Art – Ugly and Beautiful," organized by the ecological-artistic group S3.
The exhibition is being set up on the occasion of the launch of the first annual ecological-educational communication campaign: "Waste Prevention Program PPBO - City Without Cigarette Butts" and aims to raise funds for the continuous implementation of the campaign project "Waste Prevention Program PPBO - City Without Cigarette Butts" and the experimental development of a recycling system, as well as to raise awareness about the harmfulness of discarding cigarette butts as a latent threat to the environment.
With the help of over 200 volunteers, 500,000 cigarette butts were collected from the streets of Sarajevo, subjected to a recycling treatment, yielding material from which eminent artists - academic sculptors Saša Bukvić and Stjepo Gavrić, for the first time in the world, created sculptures and reliefs, proving that cigarette butts that mar the appearance of our community can also be used as artistic objects.
The exhibition starts at 8:00 PM.
