Organized by NUB BiH: Exhibition "Vijećnica 22 Years Later" Opened

In the Sarajevo City Hall today, the exhibition "National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina - Vijećnica 22 Years Later" was opened, featuring dozens of pictures and newspaper articles showcasing the City Hall in flames in 1992, when the Serbian aggressor shelled and burned it to the ground from the surrounding hills of Sarajevo, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Among other things, visitors saw wartime newspaper editions that were published during that period: Oslobođenje, Ljiljan, Večernje novine, Slobodna Bosna, etc.

The exhibition was organized by NUB BiH, which for 43 years until that August 25th, was available to students, pupils, and artists as a unique base for research and scientific thought. Given that the legal status of the City Hall's disposal has not yet been resolved, the exhibition is only held today.

Director of NUB BiH, Ismet Ovčina, said that the City Hall represented a symbol of spirituality and was a place of gathering, socializing, and learning for many generations. Damir Mašić, Minister of Education and Science of the FBiH, stated that a message can be conveyed from the renovated City Hall that a spiritual victory is visible after its reconstruction.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Ilaria Ragnoni, representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy, Ismet Tucak, commander of the Professional Fire Brigade of Sarajevo, and Nihad Čengić, art restorer, writes Patria.
