458th traditional jumps from the Old Bridge on Sunday

(Patria) - The traditional 458th jumps from the Old Bridge in Mostar will be held on Sunday, July 28.

The event starts at 4 PM, and images of brave jumpers circle the world every year.

The jumps are performed in two disciplines: headfirst dive (swallow) and feet-first dive. Around 50 jumpers are expected this year. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the renovated bridge in Mostar.

The Old Bridge in Mostar was built in 1566 and was the largest arch structure of its time in the world. Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent commissioned its construction. He entrusted the building to the architect Mimar Hayruddin, who did not live to see the bridge unveiled.

After two days of shelling from the positions of the Croatian Defence Council, the Old Bridge was destroyed on November 9, 1993. At that time, the historic city center in its surroundings was also almost completely destroyed.

It was renovated and reopened to the public on July 23, 2004, and since 2005, the Old Bridge has been part of UNESCO's World Heritage.

Mostar and the Old Bridge are a destination that attracts numerous tourists visiting BiH, and Red Bull Cliff Diving jumps have been organized on this bridge for nine years. The next ones are scheduled for 2025.
