Turkey Unveils Its Most Powerful Non-Nuclear Aircraft Bomb GAZAP

(Patria) - Turkey unveiled its most powerful conventional aircraft bomb, GAZAP, at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025) in Istanbul, featuring a 970-kilogram warhead.

The bomb, designed by the Research and Development (R&D) center of the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, disperses 10.16 fragments per square meter, an official told Anadolu.

With its explosive effect, the bomb has a very destructive capability and can be dropped from an F-16 fighter jet.

“The R&D center modified the explosive and filling design. Qualification and certification processes are complete, and we are ready for use,” said the promoter.

Providing information about another bomb, the 970 kg NEB-2 Ghost, the official noted that it is the best bunker destroyer in the field.

“Normally, in nuclear power plants, American-made missiles penetrate 2.4 meters of C35 standard concrete. The NEB-2 penetrates seven meters of C50, concrete three times stronger than in nuclear power plants,” the official also said.

The bunker-busting bomb can also be dropped from an F-16 fighter jet.

As part of in-flight testing, the NEB-2 bomb was dropped on an island, penetrating a 90-meter crater and causing landslides, gas leaks, and rock destruction on the 160-meter diameter island.

“The explosion, which normally lasts 25 milliseconds, is timed to 240 milliseconds, making it more destructive,” the official added.

The IDEF fair began on Tuesday and is open until today. It is organized by KFA Fairs with the support of the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Turkey and the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, while Anadolu Agency serves as the global communication partner.

Defence ministers, chief of general staff, commanders, and high-ranking military officials from as many as 103 countries are participating in the fair. 44 countries have opened their stands, and more than 900 Turkish and 400 foreign defence companies are present.

On the second to last day of the fair, the promotion of two exceptional aircraft, the Turkish combat drone Bayraktar Kizilelma and the luxury transport aircraft Piaggio P.180 Avanti, attracted particular attention from visitors.

IDEF 2025 continues to be a key meeting point for global defence actors, offering a platform for showcasing the latest technologies and fostering international collaborations.
