Turkey to fine passengers who stand up too quickly after plane lands

(Patria) - Turkey will fine passengers who unbuckle their seatbelts too early after a plane lands and stand up from their seats.

The new law will attempt to stop passengers who want to exit before others from the front rows, by unbuckling early, taking their bags, and rushing out of the plane even before the pilot gives the signal that it is allowed.

Turkish authorities have announced that they have received complaints about passengers trying to bypass this rule, and inspections on flights have confirmed that many do not adhere to it.

The law itself does not specify the amount of the fine, but Turkish television Halk reports that it will be 2,603 lira, or 60 euros.

Air traffic laws in many countries prohibit passengers from unbuckling while the seatbelt sign is on, but in practice, only those who disturb the peace or smoke in the toilet are financially fined.

The new law could also fine those who push towards the exit even though passengers in front of them have not yet exited.

Airlines will therefore be instructed to make the following announcement:

"Do not stand up or walk down the aisle until it is your turn to leave the plane".

Airlines that do not comply with this law could also be fined.
