(Patria) - Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways less than a week after Fox News and parent company Fox Corp settled the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit for $787.5 million, Reuters reported.
The settlement avoided a trial that would have put one of the world's leading media companies in the spotlight over its reporting of false claims about election fraud in the 2020 United States elections.
Carlson was expected to testify in the Dominion lawsuit. Dominion claimed that statements made on Carlson's show after the 2020 election were defamatory and that messages between Carlson and his team were evidence that they knew the claims were false. At the time, Tucker claimed that Dominion's ballot-counting machines from Denver were used to manipulate election results in favor of Democrat Joe Biden.
Dominion claimed that Carlson's reporting damaged its reputation and filed a lawsuit.
Carlson's last show was on April 21, the company said in a statement. Tucker Carlson was Fox News's most popular anchor and has been called the "voice of white America." He had four of the top ten highest-rated programs on American cable television, according to Nielsen data for the period of March 27 to April 2, the BBC writes. His shows were watched by an average of three million people.
His comments were largely against Democrats and in favor of Republicans. Critics accused him of "right-wing populism."
