Three Characteristics of a Successful Leader!

By Isa Pašalić, psychologist

In today's world, we are witnessing an increasing overuse of words that should hold a high function in the collective consciousness of a nation and community. One of these words is leader.

The quality of a nation can be recognized through the quality of its representatives and leaders. The leadership of a community signifies the most important fruit of the overall ethical and social experience of a nation. It represents the place from which organization and every system through which the community passes originates. Therefore, with poor leadership, a community is led towards its downfall and disappearance, while with good leadership, the internal strength of the community is awakened and directed in a direction that brings it what is good for it and enables its survival and prosperity. When a nation is truly committed to healthy ethical norms, such a nation naturally generates healthy and good leadership.

A good leader has three characteristics. One of them is integrity. Integrity in a person represents strict adherence to ethical norms and principles. This characteristic builds stability in a person and creates a sense of trustworthiness and firmness in others, which results in gaining respect. Integrity is crucial because a leader who possesses this characteristic is not tempted to betray the principles for which they were chosen to be in power. Adherence to ethical and moral principles has always been one of the most noble human qualities, so it is quite natural that a good leader will also be a champion of ethics and principledness.

The second characteristic is charisma. Charisma is an innate character trait that attracts and gathers other people around the person who possesses it. It is a natural magnetism that allows a charismatic leader to capture the attention of others and be heard. This is an important characteristic that allows a leader to easily convey their views, ideas, and visions, which are ultimately more easily accepted and received by the community.

The third characteristic, the most important one as it frames all others, is the leader's actual ability to realize their idea. It is reflected in the ability to organize and inspire people to do what is beneficial for everyone. This characteristic is very important because the idea and plan to realize something are not the same as the true ability to implement this plan. Ideas are often too perfect and do not take into account the real problems that realization entails. Therefore, it is crucial for a leader to know how to put a plan into action, because the value of any plan lies in its possibility to be implemented into real change in the world.

In a world where the word leadership is beginning to have a profane use, it is crucial to restore its significance. A nation without proper and upright leadership is a nation unable to fight for its place in the world. Leadership needs to be restored to its true role, which is the pillar and point around which the nation gathers and organizes in order to prosper in a world where everyone fights for the same position of winner.

Victory never comes spontaneously; it is the result of careful and courageous planning, both for individuals and for nations.
