(Patria) - The third installment of the film "Avatar" directed by James Cameron earned nearly 345 million US dollars worldwide in its opening weekend, as expected, distributor Walt Disney announced.
In American and Canadian cinemas, this film, full title "Avatar: Ash and Fire" earned 88 million dollars, Disney stated.
Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington lent their voices to the main characters in the film, a story about the Na'vi tribe, three-meter-tall blue beings, who must fight to protect their family and the planet Pandora.
The first "Avatar", released in 2009, leads the all-time box office charts with 2.9 billion dollars in ticket sales worldwide.
The 2022 sequel, titled "Avatar: The Way of Water", is in third place with 2.3 billion dollars in earnings.
In the third installment, we meet the Ash People, a more aggressive tribe of grayish-skinned Na'vi who represent the darker side of Pandora.
Director Cameron filmed the movie simultaneously with the second installment to ensure visual continuity.
Critics say the film is emotionally demanding, not just visually spectacular.
