Almost Half of Electric Car Owners in the US Want to Return to Gasoline

(Patria) - The latest study confirms that electrification is not going as expected.

This is especially visible in the US, where the initial enthusiasm has slowly faded in recent months, resulting in a decline in sales of certain electric cars, reports Index.hr.

Many manufacturers are revaluating their business plans and struggling with the transition to electricity.

The latest study, titled "2024 Mobility Consumer Pulse," conducted by "McKinsey & Co," reveals that 46% of electric vehicle owners in the US want to switch back to gasoline cars.

The main reason cited is inadequate charging infrastructure.

Thus, 35 percent of them blame the underdeveloped public network, 34 percent of owners claim that the costs of owning an electric vehicle are still too high, and 32 percent say that electric vehicles have had too much impact on their driving style on long trips.

Other reasons cited by owners include the inability to charge at home (24 percent), stress over charging concerns (21 percent), and mobility requirements for charging (16 percent). Only 13 percent said they do not enjoy the driving experience.

Let us recall, there are 183,000 publicly available chargers for electric vehicles in the US.

However, Americans are not the most disappointed with electric cars. In Australia, as many as 49 percent of electric vehicle owners are considering returning to the pump. Brazil is third on the list - 38% of electric car drivers in that country want to return to gasoline.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Japan, where only 13 percent of owners would want to return to a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine.

Other countries below the global average are Italy (15 percent), France (18 percent), Germany (24 percent), and China (28 percent).
