(Patria) - Photographer Boris Trogrančić, who regularly reveals the hidden beauties and wonderful details of Bosnia and Herzegovina to our public, this time sent a postcard from the village of Guča Gora on the slopes of Vlašić near Travnik to Punkufer.hr.
- The Franciscan monastery and the church of St. Francis of Assisi are the highlight of this Bosnian village - says Trogrančić about Guča Gora, listed among the 17 most beautiful villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- And since this initiative has been part of the global brand 'The Most Beautiful Villages of the World' since summer, we can rightly say that Guča Gora is also on the world tourist map - points out Trogrančić.
When you come to Guča Gora, the monastery is certainly the dominant building. The original monastery is mentioned in written documents in 1425.
Throughout the centuries, the place had a turbulent history, and the current church and monastery date from 1856, and were extended according to the project of architect Josip Vancaš in 1894.
The monastery and church were burned down in 1945, but were rebuilt a decade later.
Interestingly, the monastery in Guča Gora was often visited by Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić.
Today, it houses a valuable and large ethnographic collection, as well as a library with several thousand books. Due to renovation, the museum is currently closed, but will soon welcome visitors again.
The village of Guča Gora is located on the slopes of the Vlašić mountain, which the Travnik municipal council declared a nature park in 2007. Near the village is the well-known pine forest "Carine" - a local picnic area.
- I had the privilege of being guided through the village by a local resident, the kind Mr. Tomo, so we also visited lesser-known sites such as medieval tombstones, and we also tried homemade cornmeal prepared from local flour in the village - adds Trogrančić.
