Selimović: I am aware of the great responsibility that this honorable duty carries

(Patria) - The newly appointed Management Board of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) has elected Jasmina Selimović as the Governor of the CBBH for a six-year term.

Jasmina Selimović was elected at the session of the CBBH Management Board on January 3, 2024, at which the newly appointed members of the CBBH Management Board, Dr. Jasmina Selimović, Dr. Mirza Kršo, Dr. Danijela Martinović, Dr. Radomir Božić, and Dr. Darko Tomaš, officially took office.

Upon her appointment, Governor Selimović stated:

“As of today, I am taking over the duties of the Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am proud, as I am the first female governor in the modern history of BiH, but also aware of the great responsibility that this honorable duty carries. I am grateful to the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the proposal and to the members of the CBBH Management Board for their support.

The activities of the CBBH in the coming period will be primarily focused on preserving the currency board, the stability of the Institution, and the work system. The manner of operation, defined by the Law on the Central Bank of BiH, has clearly prescribed the parameters of BiH's monetary policy, as well as the currency board arrangement, which remains in force. The Central Bank of BiH must continue to maintain its independence and professional operation.

The BiH currency, the convertible mark, is stable and convertible, which are prerequisites for the country's financial stability and economic prosperity. The CBBH, as the owner of the RTGS system and giro clearing, will continue to ensure the stability of payment systems and their functioning.

The banking system of BiH is stable and sufficiently capitalized, which also applies to the entities. In the coming period, we will focus special attention on connecting the CBBH with the central banks of the region and Europe.

We will carefully consider all best practices applicable in BiH. Our goal is the further improvement of our processes, visibility, and the transparency of the Institution's work. In our work, we expect adequate support from the media as well as other stakeholders, primarily in the financial sector.“

Jasmina Selimović has replaced Senad Softić as the Governor of the CBBH.

The newly appointed Governor, who is also the Chairperson of the CBBH Management Board, holds a doctorate in economics. Since 2004, she has been engaged at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo, at the Department of Finance and the Department of Quantitative Economics. She completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo, majoring in Business Economics, with a specialization in Actuarial Science and Insurance. She prepared and defended her doctoral dissertation in the field of actuarial science at the Faculty of Economics in the USA. Currently, as a full professor, she teaches courses in the fields of Finance, Quantitative Economics, and Actuarial Science at the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo.

In addition to her engagement in the teaching process, she held the positions of Deputy Head of the Department of Finance, Vice-Dean for Teaching and International Cooperation, and in 2018, she was elected Dean of the Faculty. In 2022, she renewed her four-year term.

She is a member of numerous professional associations in the country and abroad. She is active in world organizations for the accreditation of business schools and universities (AACSB and EFMD), and is also engaged as an international expert for accreditation with quality agencies in EU countries. She has attended numerous professional development courses in the country and abroad.

She is the author and co-author of several books and chapters in monographs, numerous scientific and professional articles published in internationally indexed journals, conference proceedings, and professional journals.

She has participated in many international and domestic conferences and projects. She holds a license as a permanent court expert in economics, a license as an internal auditor for banks and financial institutions, as well as a license for performing the duties of a certified actuary.

From 2011 to 2015, she was a member of the Advisory Group of the Fiscal Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina (as a delegate of the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH). Since 2018, she has been an independent member of the Supervisory Board of Raiffeisen bank BiH.

By decision of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, she was appointed a member of the Management Board of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a six-year term, starting from January 1, 2024.
