(Patria) - Travel and books have always shared the same mission – to broaden horizons. As of today, all those passing through Sarajevo International Airport can feel the spirit of that connection in the newly opened bookstore that brings a touch of culture and inspiration to the place from which one departs into the world.
This unique space is not just a point of sale, but a true little oasis for book lovers. The shelves are filled with carefully selected titles – from classics of world literature, through contemporary prose and non-fiction, to travel editions and gifts that carry the spirit of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Special emphasis is placed on domestic authors and publications that remind readers that the most beautiful stories are often found right at home.
The airport bookstore was created with the idea of making reading a part of every journey – whether you are waiting for a flight, returning home, or just embarking on a new adventure. Every book, just like a map in hand, opens doors to new worlds and brings a sense of freedom.
The project was realized within the business system of Svjetlostkomerc, the largest bookstore chain in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been connecting book lovers and promoting reading culture throughout the country for decades.
"We wanted books to become a part of the everyday travel experience – for people, while traveling the world, to also carry a piece of our country's cultural value. Books connect people, languages, and spaces, just as travel does.
I believe this bookstore will awaken curiosity in travelers and remind them that, wherever we go, we always carry our stories and identity. Our goal is for the airport bookstore to become a place where world and domestic literature meet," stated Vedad Halilović, director of Svjetlostkomerc.
"We are proud that Sarajevo International Airport is becoming richer with content that offers travelers more than just travel. The opening of the first bookstore at the airport is a symbol of our commitment to connecting mobility and culture, making Sarajevo Airport a space that inspires and connects.
I am convinced that this bookstore will further enrich the experience of our passengers and promote domestic literature and the values of Bosnia and Herzegovina," emphasized Sanin Ramezić, acting director of Sarajevo International Airport.
By opening this space, Sarajevo joins world cities that put culture first, showing that an airport is not just a transit point, but a place of encounters, inspiration, and ideas.
