(Patria) - The championship car of the Red Bull Racing team, model RB7, has been serviced and prepared for its appearance in Sarajevo, eagerly awaited by tens of thousands of people.
Only a few days remain until one of the biggest events in BiH this year, the Red Bull Showrun scheduled for June 9, which promises a true spectacle in the capital city of our country.
The RB7, the car that brought Red Bull Racing a double championship title in 2011, will likely attract the most attention from spectators.
After arriving in Sarajevo, the car was serviced and prepared for its performance on the Sarajevo asphalt.
Details about the service were revealed by Mark Lenton, chief mechanic of the Red Bull Racing showcar team.
- The car arrived from Poland to Sarajevo, we unloaded it and started it to check all systems and ensure they are functional, all as part of the preparations for the showrun here in Sarajevo on Sunday.
Mechanics removed the engine cover and turned on the heaters, as these engines are specially tuned with tight tolerances. We had to turn on the heaters to raise the temperature to 70 degrees before starting the engine. We always bring two cars, one of which is a spare.
If one car breaks down, we use the other. We don't carry spare parts with us, except for the gearbox. This is a key component because the car performs 'doughnuts' on the track, and sometimes the gearbox gets damaged.
We have seven people on the team, and one of us collects data and monitors the car electronically using a laptop. We also have three mechanics and a truck driver who helps us with equipment in the pit and sets up the garage - Lenton stated.
Besides the gearbox, tires suffer the most during a showrun.
- We bring tires and wheels, three sets of rain tires and four sets for dry weather. They are all made of the same compound, and we have to change them mostly because of the rear ones, which wear out during the showrun due to intense spinning and smoke.
These tires can last about 10 kilometers before we have to replace them. Their price is between 4,000 and 5,000 pounds per set - the mechanic explains.
Many are curious why older cars are used for showrun events, and the reasons are clear.
- We can use them 'harder' compared to hybrid ones, and they also have a better sound. Also, fewer people are needed for their maintenance. Here we have two cars and seven people.
If we had come with a hybrid car, we would have needed about 30 people. The costs are lower, and we can do a better job and put on a better show with more noise from the older cars - Lenton concluded.
For those who don't know or may have forgotten, the RB7 is powered by a 2.4-liter V8 engine producing 750 hp.
During 2011, it was driven by Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, and by the end of the season, the car achieved 12 wins, 27 podiums, 18 pole positions, and a total of 650 points.
Vettel took the drivers' championship title, while Red Bull Racing celebrated in the constructors' standings.
As already known, the car will be driven in Sarajevo on June 9 by British F1 driver and Red Bull Racing member, David Coulthard, and his performance will be part of a rich program.
The popular DC has proven to be a master of showmanship, so much is expected from him in the capital of BiH. In his car, he will race along the route from Marijin Dvor to the Technical School and back past the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the audience gathered along the track and in the stands will be able to enjoy the sight, as well as the sound of the powerful V8 engine.
DC will definitely not forget the indispensable 'doughnuts', so he will bring down the curtain on his unforgettable performance with the smoke of burnt tires.
This will be a great opportunity for those who haven't seen an F1 car live before, and we have no doubt that DC's performance will awaken a passion for Formula 1 in the hearts of many, thus attracting new fans to the world of Formula 1.
Certainly, during the spectacular main part of the program, which will last from 2 PM to 4 PM, do not miss the performances of other 'stars on wheels', namely the excellent Arunas Gibieža on his motorcycle and the phenomenal Red Bull Driftbrothers duo in drift cars.
Those who cannot make it to the event venue will be able to follow the Red Bull Showrun via TV broadcast on Sport Klub.
