(Patria) - After former President Donald Trump was indicted for mishandling sensitive government documents, many reacted. Particularly interesting are the reactions of his Republican colleagues, who are divided on this case.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said that "today is truly a dark day for the United States" and that congressional Republicans will "hold some accountable" for this procedure.
Asa Hutchinson, a candidate for the Republican nomination and Trump's rival in that race, has a different stance.
"Donald Trump's actions, from his deliberate disregard for the Constitution to his disregard for the rule of law, should not define our nation or the Republican Party. This is a sad day for our country," he said.
Vivek Ramaswamy, another candidate for the Republican nomination, says that "it would be much easier for me to win this election if Trump were not in the race, but I stand for principles over politics. I commit to immediately pardoning Trump on January 20, 2025, and restoring the rule of law to our country."
