Body found in barrel in Serbian town of Inđija

(Patria) - The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade announced today that a body has been found, believed to belong to a man in a murder investigation, for which the head of the Belgrade police has also been arrested.

"A body, believed to belong to the victim A.N., who was being searched for, was found in a barrel, which was dug up in the territory of the municipality of Inđija," the statement said.

The prosecutor's office has issued an order for an autopsy to be performed at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Belgrade, as well as DNA analysis.

An investigation is underway against 10 individuals on suspicion of committing various criminal offenses related to the murder of A.N.

As part of the investigation, the head of the Belgrade police, Veselin Milić, was arrested on May 15, suspected of concealing the murder.

The prosecutor's office previously stated that Milić was at a restaurant in the company of two perpetrators, and that he called A.N. by phone and suggested that he come over to discuss their mutual disagreements.

It was also announced that Milić had suggested to the victim not to come accompanied by his security.

The head of the Belgrade police, Veselin Milić, was dismissed after his arrest on May 15.

The court ordered him one month of detention, stating that the circumstances indicate that if he were to remain free, he would destroy, hide, or falsify evidence and traces of the criminal offense, as well as influence witnesses.

Milić served two terms as the head of the Belgrade police. In the meantime, he was an advisor to the President of Serbia, who awarded him a medal for bravery in 2021.
