(Patria) - At today's session of the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Proposal of the Law on Temporary Takeover of Co-Financing of Cultural and Educational Institutions, whose founder is Bosnia and Herzegovina, was considered and adopted.
This law, as a special law (Lex specialis), clearly defines the temporary takeover of co-financing of institutions from the Budget of Sarajevo Canton until a final solution is reached, and defines the status and method of financing and operations to ensure the survival, functioning, and daily work of these institutions, preventing their endangerment.
This proposal of the law envisages its urgent adoption by the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton, given that the lack of salary payments to employees of the institutions could cause serious consequences, including the cessation of their work.
Such an outcome could, however, lead to the unavailability of services of seven cultural institutions for the citizens of Sarajevo Canton, which could have serious consequences for social interests in the area of Sarajevo Canton.
“This is a key step that will ensure the stability of their functioning and survival. I expect the Assembly to recognize the urgency of the situation and act as soon as possible, and adopt the Proposal to ensure the stable functioning of cultural and educational institutions, whose services are of essential importance for the citizens of Sarajevo Canton,” said the relevant minister, Kenan Magoda.
He expressed gratitude to the assembly representatives who recognized the importance of this issue and initiated a representative initiative for the adoption of a special law that would define the financing of cultural and educational institutions of BiH.
Through the budget secured in the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, employees of these institutions will no longer have to worry about salaries, and most importantly, every subsequent income they receive from other institutions at the cantonal and Federation level, as well as from embassies and non-governmental organizations, will be able to be invested in project activities and infrastructure.
We remind you that this law will temporarily apply to the National and University Library of BiH, the Historical Museum of BiH, the Museum of Literature and Performing Arts of BiH, the Cinematheque of BiH, the Art Gallery of BiH, the National Museum of BiH, and the Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired Persons in BiH.
