(Patria) - French actor Alain Delon has passed away at the age of 88, his children announced.
"The great beast, which fascinated and divided at the same time, is dead: a cinema icon, a French actor Alain Delon, passed away at the age of 88," Delon's three children announced on Sunday morning in a joint statement to AFP.
Delon suffered a stroke in 2019 and has been battling cancer in recent years.
Delon was born in Sceaux, Seine (now Yvelines), Île-de-France, a wealthy suburb of Paris.
He was one of the biggest film icons of the 20th century, known for his memorable roles in films such as "Rocco and His Brothers" and "The Lady of the Game."
