Who Will Be on the Jury of the Competition Programme - Feature Film of the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival is Known

(Patria) - The jury of the Competition Programme - Feature Film of the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival includes director and screenwriter Sergei Loznitsa (President), actor Dragan Mićanović, director, screenwriter, and actor Emanuel Pârvu, director and screenwriter Ena Sendijarević, and festival director Tricia Tuttle.

Loznitsa joins the constellation of filmmakers who have presided over the jury of the Sarajevo Film Festival in previous editions: Mike Leigh (2004), Miki Manojlović (2005), Jasmila Žbanić (2006), Jeremy Irons (2007), Nuri Bilge Ceylan (2008), Mirjana Karanović (2009), Cristi Puiu (2010), Ari Folman (2011), Kornél Mundruczó (2012), Danis
Tanović (2013), Béla Tarr (2014), Călin Peter Netzer (2015), Elia Suleiman (2016), Michel Franco (2017), Asghar Farhadi (2018), Ruben Östlund (2019), Michel Hazanavicius (2020), Jasna Đuričić (2021), Sebastian Meise (2022), Mia Wasikowska (2023), and Paul Schrader (2024).

The jury will award the Heart of Sarajevo awards in the Competition Programme – Feature Film. The winners will be announced on Friday, August 22, at the awards ceremony.

Jury President Sergei Loznitsa
Director and screenwriter, Ukraine

Sergei Loznitsa was born in 1964 in Baranovichi, USSR (now Belarus), and grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine, graduating from the Faculty of Applied Mathematics at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in 1987. From 1987 to 1991, he worked as a scientist at the Kyiv Institute of Cybernetics, specializing in artificial intelligence research. He graduated in 1997 from the Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow.

Loznitsa has been making films since 1996. He has directed 28 award-winning documentaries and five feature films. His debut feature film, 'My Joy' (2010), premiered in competition at Cannes. His films have won numerous awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for 'In the Fog' in 2012 and the Best Director award in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival for the feature film 'Donbass' in 2018.

In 2013, he founded the film production company ATOMS & VOID. Based in Europe since 2001, he continues to work on both documentary and fiction projects. In recognition of his exceptional contribution to the art of filmmaking, a retrospective of Sergei Loznitsa's films was screened at the 28th Sarajevo Film Festival (2022), and he was presented with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award.

Dragan Mićanović
Actor, Serbia

Dragan Mićanović is a Serbian actor known for his work in film, theatre, and television. He graduated from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and gained recognition through numerous film and television roles, such as the domestic hit 'Lajanje na zvezde' (1998), and international productions 'Coriolanus' (2011) and 'Rocknrolla' (2008). He has been a prominent member of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre since 1993. His role as Fortinbras in the Globe Theatre's production of 'Hamlet' in London is particularly noteworthy.

Recent achievements include his role as Zoran Đinđić in the series 'Operacija Sablja' (2024), which won the award for best ensemble cast at Canneseries, and his role as Toma Buzov in the film 'The Man Who Couldn't Keep Quiet' (2024), winner of the Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival and nominated for an Oscar®. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious acting awards.

Emanuel Pârvu
Director, screenwriter, and actor, Romania

Director and actor Emanuel Pârvu, a professor and doctor of sciences, is a co-founder of the first graduate film acting program at Ovidius University in Romania. His films explore familial love ('Meda or the Not So Beautiful Side of Things', 'Mikado'). 'Three Kilometers to the End of the World' premiered at Cannes in 2024 in competition, won the Queer Palm, and was the Romanian candidate for an Oscar®. The film won the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Film at the Sarajevo Film Festival (2024) and the Best Director award at the Jerusalem Film Festival. He has acted in over 30 films, collaborating with key Romanian New Wave directors.

Ena Sendijarević
Director and screenwriter, Bosnia and Herzegovina / Netherlands

Ena Sendijarević is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian-Dutch screenwriter and director. She studied film theory in Amsterdam and Berlin before graduating from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2014.
Her debut feature film 'Take Me Somewhere Nice' (2019) was selected for the ACID program at the Cannes Film Festival and won awards, including the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Film and a Special Jury Prize at IFFR. Her short film 'Import' (2016) premiered in the Cannes Directors' Fortnight and was the Dutch candidate for an Oscar®.

Her second feature film 'Sweet Dreams' (2023) premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Pardo for Best Performance. The film was the Dutch candidate for an Oscar® in 2024.
In the same year, Variety magazine included her among the 10 directors to watch.

Tricia Tuttle
Festival Director, USA

Since April 2024, Tricia Tuttle has been responsible for the creative direction and management of the Berlin International Film Festival. She has held several leadership roles at the British Film Institute (BFI), BAFTA, and the National Film and Television School (NFTS). Before joining Berlinale, she led the directing program at NFTS, and previously spent a decade at the BFI, where she became Festival Director, managing the BFI London Film Festival and BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival.

She has been featured in Variety's International Women's Impact Report and in Variety500. She holds a Master's degree in Film Studies from the BFI and Birkbeck and a Bachelor's degree in Literature and Radio, Television, and Film from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The 31st Sarajevo Film Festival will be held from August 15 to 22, 2025.
