Consumer basket is 2,882.90 KM, average salary covers 44.5 percent, and minimum barely 20.6 percent

(Patria) - The trade union consumer basket calculated by the Alliance of Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina for December 2023 amounts to 2,882.90 KM.

The average salary paid in the Federation of BiH for October 2023 was 1,285 KM (the latest data published by the Federal Bureau of Statistics), and the minimum wage according to the decision of the Government of the FBiH is 596 KM. The coverage of the trade union consumer basket by the average salary is 44.57 percent, while the coverage by the minimum wage is 20.67 percent.

When preparing the trade union consumer basket, the average salary paid in the Federation of BiH was taken into account, as well as the minimum living costs for a family of four, consisting of two adults and two children, one of whom is in high school and the other in elementary school.

The consumer basket consists of the following categories (the percentage of participation of each category in the trade union consumer basket is listed next to the name): Food – 44.39 percent, Housing and utilities – 13.75 percent, Hygiene and health maintenance – 9.31 percent, Education and culture – 10.41 percent, Clothing and footwear – 10.41 percent, Transportation – 4.79 percent, Household maintenance – 6.94 percent.

In the food category, prices from three (3) shopping centers for 86 items were used. Regarding hygiene and health maintenance, costs for ten (10) items were included, and for housing and utilities, costs for six (6) items, it was announced by the Alliance of Independent Trade Unions of BiH.
