See the beauties of Machu Picchu, the ancient Inca city

Machu Picchu (Quechua language: Machu Pikchu, meaning "Old Peaks") is the sacred city of the Incas ("Lost City of the Incas") located on the highest part of the eastern Andes in Peru, on the eastern slopes of the mountain range above the Urubamba river valley and immediately above the settlement of Aguas Calientes, at an altitude of 2,350 meters above sea level, reports the BH news agency Patria. 

Machu Picchu was probably built around 1300, but remained hidden until 1911, when it was discovered by the American Hiram Bingham. In 1983, Machu Picchu was inscribed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in America, and in 2007 it was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. 

Archaeologists today claim that Machu Picchu was not a city in the classical sense of the word, as no remains of bureaucratic administration, trade, or military fortresses have been found. It was most likely built as an imperial estate and religious sanctuary or as a secret ceremonial city.

It is visited annually by about 400,000 tourists from all over the world, with a daily visit of about 2,500 visitors according to the decision of the Peruvian authorities.
