Platform X claims it will prevent Grok AI from undressing images of real people

(Patria) - Platform X of American billionaire Elon Musk announced that the artificial intelligence (AI) model, Grok, will no longer be able to edit photos of real people to depict them in scant clothing or without clothing.

"We have implemented technological measures to prevent the Grok account from allowing the editing of images of real people in scant clothing," the statement on platform X, which is reported today by the BBC, reads.

The change was announced several hours after the Attorney General of California said that the US federal state is investigating the spread of sexualized deepfakes generated by the AI model, including those of children.

"We are now geoblocking the ability of all users to generate images of real people in bikinis, underwear, and similar clothing via the Grok account and in Grok on X in those jurisdictions where it is illegal," the platform X statement reads, referring to restricting access to websites, content, or services based on the user's geographic location, which is usually identified by their IP address, which is unique to each computer.

The statement adds that only paying users will be able to edit images using Grok on their platform.

This will add an additional layer of protection by helping to ensure that those who attempt to misuse Grok to violate the law or X company policy are held accountable.

With NSFW (not safe for work) settings enabled, Grok should allow "topless nudity of imaginary adult humans (not real ones)," consistent with what can be seen in R-rated movies, Musk wrote yesterday on platform X.

"That is the de facto standard in America. This will vary in other regions according to laws from country to country," Musk said.

Over the weekend, Malaysia and Indonesia became the first countries to ban the Grok AI tool, after users said photos were altered to create explicit images without their consent.
