Peštek: Ruling political circles continue to marginalize Parliament

(Patria) - The House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament, by urgent procedure at today's extraordinary session in Sarajevo, adopted the Bill on Amendments to the Law on Budgets in FBiH, which allows the FBiH Government to make decisions on temporary financing.

Enes Peštek, a delegate of the Party for BiH in the House of Peoples, pointed out that this is exclusively within the jurisdiction of both houses of the FBiH Parliament, explaining that Article 20 of the Constitution of FBiH clearly stipulates that Parliament is competent for adopting the budget and tax laws.

- This law, adopted by the parliamentary majority and the Government of the Federation of BiH, deeply undermines the fundamental principles of constitutionality and the democratic system of government. The derogation of the FBiH Constitution, which allows the Government to make decisions on temporary financing, represents a flagrant violation of the constitutional competencies of Parliament, which is clearly authorized to adopt the budget and tax laws - Peštek believes.

He points out that such an amendment to the law, which allows further concentration of power in the hands of the executive branch, not only jeopardizes the balance between the branches of government but also creates space for further abuse of financial resources and authoritarian rule.

- This move not only abolishes the principles of democratic oversight but also destroys citizens' trust in institutions.

Instead of respecting the constitutional order and the interests of all citizens, we have a situation where ruling political circles continue to marginalize Parliament and strive with all their might to create a system in which their decisions remain unimpeded and beyond control.

Such moves can lead to the creation of a situation where self-elected elites govern the country, without accountability to the citizens - Peštek added.
