Paul and Lynn sold their guesthouse and decided to live on a cruise ship

(Patria) - Do you want to travel the world without leaving the comfort of your own apartment - or room, a residential cruise ship is the perfect solution.

Married couple Paul and Lynn Montoya from the American state of Wyoming have decided to take exactly that step. They sold their guesthouse, which they rented out in the USA, and decided to take permanent accommodation on a cruise ship to see some of the world, reports Punkufer.



- We never had time for travel. In fact, we only went to Europe for the first time in our lives last year. Now we are in our sixties and would like to explore the world - said Paul Montoya, who travels with his wife and publishes their experiences on a YouTube channel.

They bought a full-board accommodation on the residential cruise ship Villa Vie Odyssey, which set sail in April 2025 for a three-and-a-half-year journey around the world. During this time, they will visit 147 countries, 100 tropical islands, and dock in 425 world ports.

They paid $129,000 for a cabin on the ship - a price that allows them ownership for a minimum of 15 years. The period of use can be longer than 15 years, depending on the actual lifespan of the ship.



In addition, the couple pays a monthly maintenance fee of $3,999, or about $57,000 annually.

The monthly fee includes three meals a day, cabin cleaning service, laundry, high-speed internet, as well as entertainment facilities such as access to a fitness center, swimming pools, hot tub, pickleball courts, and various social gatherings.

The Montoyas estimate that they spend about six thousand dollars a month, or about $80,000 a year, on this adventure.



They would spend this money even if they lived in a large American city like Los Angeles or New York, where real estate and rental prices are extremely high.

- If you lived in California or New York today, you probably couldn't even rent an apartment for this money - says Lynn.

In case they have to return to the USA for a wedding, funeral, or other obligations, they can rent out their cabin to someone else via Airbnb. And if they get tired of life at sea, they can also sell their cabin - to Villa Vie company at a reduced value, or to a new owner with a profit.

Judging by their YouTube videos, they are currently in Oceania and enjoying life to the fullest.
