The Association for Culture, Art and International Cooperation Adligat announced today that the organizer of the "Days of Serb Culture in Croatia" cancelled their participation in the event and the presentation of the Museum of Books and Travel.
During the literary evening "Mitrov danak pjesnički sastanak" (St. Demetrius' Day Poetic Meeting), it was planned for the day after tomorrow (November 12) to present the museum's work, collections related to Croatia, including letters by Miroslav Krleža, as well as culture from distant parts of the planet.
Adligat's Honorary President Viktor Lazić pointed out that the notification from the organizer arrived the day before the planned departure to Croatia. It stated that "due to the political situation in Croatia and the security assessment of the endangerment of participants and the audience," the play "Kuća" (House) and the literary evening "Mitrov danak pjesnički sastanak" were cancelled.
Lazić reacted sharply to this explanation, emphasizing the absurdity of the situation.
"Wouldn't even a police cordon be enough to protect us? A lecture about a museum and reading poetry have turned into a heroic deed!" Lazić asked.
He also added an ironic comment about the alleged poor timing: "They say November is unsuitable because it reminds of the period when crimes were committed. And when were there no crimes, everyone against everyone".
Cancellation follows a series of attacks
This security assessment and cancellation come at a time of heightened tensions in Croatia. Let us recall, recently masked men stormed the Days of Serbian Culture in the Blatine city district in Split, and a protest was held due to the arrest of some of them.
A similar incident occurred in Zagreb, while in Rijeka, the police prevented an attack on young Serbian karatekas.
