Higher Salaries for Budget Beneficiaries in Sarajevo Canton from 2024

(Patria) - The Sarajevo Canton (SC) Government today made a decision based on which, from the beginning of next year, the base salary for workers receiving salaries from the SC Budget will be increased by 16.7 percent.

The increase of the base from 330 to 385 KM applies to employees in primary, secondary and higher education, the police, as well as civil servants and employees.

This decision by the Cantonal Government followed consultations with trade unions.

The increase in the base means 58 million KM more for this purpose in the coming year compared to this year, which is included in the Draft Budget of the SC for 2024.

As stated by the Minister of Finance of the SC, Emir Dedović, this increase, despite the reduced weight for the SC and other challenges, will in no way jeopardize any other item financed from the cantonal budget.

He explains that in this way, the base level at the federal level will finally be reached, and that with this decision, in times of inflation, the aim is to retain staff in the Canton's institutions.

- It was not easy to achieve this increase, but our commitment is to do so, to equalize the institutions that so far had the lowest base of all in the SC with the level of the Federation.

In this way, we are sending a message that we care about retaining employees in institutions, so that they can function smoothly - states Dedović.

As he adds, an agreement was reached with the unions to continue negotiations regarding other rights arising from collective agreements.

The minister reminds that the Government is serious in its intention to systematically regulate the salary system, and recalls that a project to analyze the salary and reward system in the SC has begun in cooperation with the Sarajevo Economic Institute.

This project aims to equalize current differences, i.e., to create a catalog of coefficients, so that employees with the same level of education and in the same positions in healthcare, education or ministries have the same salaries.
