Not so good data: BiH had export decline and import growth in the first quarter of 2024

(Patria) - The Council of Ministers of BiH adopted the Analysis of Foreign Trade Exchange of Bosnia and
Herzegovina for the period January-March 2024, prepared by the Ministry of
Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH.

The total merchandise exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first quarter of 2024 amounted to
10.66 billion KM, of which the value of exported goods was 3.85 billion KM, and imported goods 6.81 billion KM, while the foreign trade deficit amounted to 2.96 billion KM.

Total foreign trade exchange recorded a decline of 2.60% in this period compared to the same period last year, with an import growth of 4.05% and an export decline of 12.50%. The European Union remains our main foreign trade partner with a total export of 2.89 billion KM, which is a decrease of 10.87% compared to the same period last year, while imports from the EU amounted to 4.06 billion KM, which is an increase of 4.39% compared to imports from the first quarter of last year.

Among the main trading partners, we had the highest import coverage by exports in the first quarter of this year with Austria at 157.82 percent, Croatia at 141.24 percent, Slovenia at 126.42 percent, Germany at 74.01 percent, and Serbia at 61.17 percent.
