After five years of production, Volkswagen's luxury wagon is retiring

(Patria) - After five years of production, Volkswagen's luxury wagon is retiring.

You guessed it, we're talking about the Arteon, a model launched eight years ago as a sedan and five years ago as a wagon.

Although it also offered an eHybrid version, powered by a plug-in hybrid, the Arteon is retiring after only 190,000 units produced, reports Index.hr.

This was personally confirmed by Andreas G. Schleith, Volkswagen's Head of Business Communication, with a post dedicated to the Arteon's retirement.

This is somewhat unexpected, as last year Martin Hube, spokesperson for the Arteon, Passat, Touareg, and the upcoming ID.2 models, stated that the production of the wagon version would be discontinued in 2026.

However, production at the Osnabrück plant has been halted, and now only Volkswagen's only convertible, the T-Roc Cabriolet, is produced there. The latter will be produced until mid-2027. The question remains what will happen to the plant after the discontinuation of the second model.

With this, Volkswagen is moving further away from the idea of luxury cars, which was already clear after the cancellation of the second-generation Phaeton project. The W12 engine has also been "retired," and recently the last VR-6 engine was produced after 24 years of production.
