(Patria) - Google's list of most searched destinations in 2024 reveals fascinating places travelers want to visit.

At the top of the list is Turkey, thanks to its rich history and diversity. Greece, with its islands and ancient cities, continues to attract visitors, while Malta enchants with its unique blend of historical sites and vibrant nightlife. Italy remains a favorite destination for its art, cuisine, and landscapes, and Egypt continues to intrigue with its ancient magic, according to Conde Nast Traveler magazine's analysis of the most searched destinations on Google in 2024.

1. Turkey

It's a pleasure to see a country that wasn't even in the top 10 in 2023 take the top spot this year. Turkey truly deserves the spotlight as it's a very diverse country, full of culture, history, magnificent architecture, and artistry. Try Istanbul – you'll find plenty of world-class hotels and food to suit your taste here – or head to the coast with its enchanting views, charming villages, or bohemian hangouts.

2. Greece

Greece tops the list of countries with the highest number of Google searches. From the island of Mykonos and its iconic spots to the "jungle" of Kefalonia, known for its hiking trails and rustic villages, Greece is a destination that keeps on giving. Start in Athens, home to some of the world's best bars, to get a taste of culinary masterpieces. Then, head to your Greek island of choice – will it be the sunsets in Santorini? The uncrowded beaches of Corfu? The late summer sun in Crete? Whatever you choose, Greece is sure to impress.

3. Malta

This island is a hit European destination. Its history is deep, and its beauty is even deeper. The country has been used as a backdrop for many iconic films and TV series ("Gladiator II", "Game of Thrones", and "Troy" to name a few), but behind its honey-colored streets lie restaurants, bars, and hotels waiting to be explored.

4. Italy

We'll never get tired of Italy, and it seems you won't either. The country is a mix of beautiful fairytale towns, bustling cities, and pristine beaches. While shopping in Milan is obviously unparalleled, the city's coffee scene is equally worth exploring. Florence boasts some of the best hotels in the country, and the Tuscan landscape is like a painting on canvas. When it comes to food, it has to be Rome, but the capital is also one of the cities with the most galleries and museums in Europe.

5. Egypt

We are delighted to see Egypt remain on the list of desired destinations. Obviously, we don't need to elaborate on Egypt's beauty; if you're already planning your trip, you're well aware of it. There is, of course, a lot of ancient history to discover, but wander through the country's streets to find hidden treasures that pharaohs would envy. Art galleries and souks are bustling and sure to lighten your wallets, but there's also the Nile, dazzling enough for those seeking memories beyond souvenirs. Far from the river, the Sahara covers 94 percent of the country, leaving a vast (yet surprisingly untamed) area to explore.

6. Portugal

Despite falling from fourth to sixth place this year, interest in this European country remains. From exciting restaurants opening in the north to blue water sanctuaries in the south, so many travelers are flocking to Portugal. Porto is a relatively new contender on the European food championship, but it has quickly gained a reputation. The remote Azores archipelago is often overlooked in favor of the country's beach resorts – think thermal waters, turquoise lagoons, and volcanoes piercing the clouds. Lisbon, of course, needs no introduction; it's home to some beautiful, affordable hotels.

7. Cyprus

Floating between Greece, Turkey, and Lebanon – Cyprus is a mix of cultures. Come for the snow-capped rugged mountains, powdery soft beaches lapped by the sparkling Mediterranean, and some excellent Cypriot food scattered across the island. Spend hours in the sea (it's known for some of the best diving and shipwrecks in the world) or tour Byzantine churches before visiting one of the lush vineyards in the evening.

8. Mexico

We've long adored its expansive white-sand beaches, lush rainforests, and incredible cuisine, so we're glad others are soaking up Mexico's beauty too. It has all the ingredients to suit every type of traveler – foodies can spend days wandering through markets and restaurants in Mexico City, historians can delve into the deep chronicles of Mayan and Aztec ruins, and lucky photographers can head straight for the cenotes, where sapphire-blue waters glisten in streams of sunlight.

9. Mauritius

Mauritius is finally re-entering the golden travel zone. In the eighties and nineties, Mauritius was a favorite jet-set destination, but over time, its glittering appeal faded. Now, the island is back in the spotlight, thanks to a series of glamorous hotels, renewed conservation efforts, and a growing street food scene. Nature lovers are richly rewarded with lush greenery and some of the best birdwatching in the world. It climbed to 9th place on this list, but we hope this island nation will continue to receive the recognition it deserves in 2025.

10. Croatia

This European country is gradually gaining a reputation as a European tourist hotspot. It's a more affordable holiday destination than some neighboring countries. Tour the islands (Korčula is our favorite), head inland for delicious gourmet trips around Split or Zagreb, or dive into walled Dubrovnik. But their number one attraction is the beaches, with over 4,000 kilometers of coastline.
