Award for Outstanding Achievements of Women in Science Presented to Prof. Dr. Amra Čaušević

(Patria) - On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, Prof. Dr. Amra Čaušević was awarded the Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Women in Science at the University of Sarajevo for 2023, which is awarded in accordance with the Rulebook on rewarding academic and research staff of the University of Sarajevo based on the results of scientific/artistic work.

The Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Women in Science is awarded on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated on February 11, and in accordance with the Rulebook, it is awarded to the highest-ranked woman on the list of recipients of awards for scientific/artistic contribution that the University awards each year.

The Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Women in Science at the University of Sarajevo was presented to Prof. Dr. Amra Čaušević by the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, along with Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Naris Pojskić and Prof. Dr. Benina Veledar.

"Investment in scientific research and artistic research represents a long-term investment in the development of our country. It is extremely important that we direct available resources towards strengthening and developing science and art, so that we can adequately respond to the challenges of global development. The University of Sarajevo is the bearer of scientific, research and artistic activities in the Sarajevo Canton, and our goal is to strengthen the academic community and encourage researchers to operate on the international scientific scene, publishing in recognized scientific journals, thereby promoting not only the University of Sarajevo but also Bosnia and Herzegovina," emphasized Rector Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović.

Prof. Dr. Amra Čaušević, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Sarajevo, in the evaluation cycle of scientific papers for 2023, in accordance with the Rulebook on rewarding, achieved 22.33 points for scientific papers published in journals indexed in the Web of Science scientific database, thus positioning herself in second place among 132 awarded researchers who, in accordance with the Rulebook on rewarding, were awarded prizes for scientific and artistic contribution.

"It is a great honor and privilege to receive the award for outstanding achievements of women in science, especially on this significant day – the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This award represents not only recognition for my work and effort but also a symbol of support for all women who fight daily for their place in the scientific community. I sincerely thank the University of Sarajevo for this recognition, as well as my family, friends and colleagues, whose support and encouragement have been key on my professional path. This recognition is an additional incentive to continue working, researching and contributing to the development of science with dedication," emphasized the award recipient Prof. Dr. Amra Čaušević.


The United Nations General Assembly declared February 11 as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2015, with the aim of achieving full and equal access to science and participation in scientific processes, and contributing to ensuring gender equality and empowering women and girls. In accordance with European strategic documents, which also promote the vital importance of women's participation in research, the University of Sarajevo, on the initiative of the Council for Science and Art, through the Rulebook on rewarding, began the practice of awarding the Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Women in Science.
