Musk: Robots will surpass even the best human surgeons by 2030

(Patria) - Tesla, SpaceX and Neuralink founder, American billionaire Elon Musk said that robots will soon surpass even the best human surgeons.

Musk stated this on platform X, responding to a post by Mario Nawfal, founder of the investment company IBC Group, which invests in blockchain projects and new technologies.

"Robots will surpass good human surgeons within a few years, and the best human surgeons within about five years," Musk wrote.

Emphasizing the acceleration of progress in robotic technologies in medicine, he highlighted the importance of robotics in the work of his company Neuralink, which develops technologies for connecting the human brain and computers.

"Neuralink had to use a robot for the electrode insertion, because it was impossible for a human to achieve the required speed and precision," Musk added.

Mario Nawfal, an entrepreneur in the field of cryptocurrencies and technology, commented on the recent test results of the robotic system Hugo, developed by the medical company Medtronic.

The tests were conducted on 137 real surgeries, including procedures on the prostate, kidney, and bladder, and the results were impressive.

"The results were better than those of doctors," said Nawfal, referring to a report shared by RTTNews.

Medtronic's robot achieved exceptionally high results in surgeries. Complication rates were minimal - only 3.7 percent for prostate surgeries, 1.9 percent for kidney surgeries, and 17.9 percent for bladder surgeries.

All these rates were better than the safety targets set after years of research.

"The robot achieved a success rate of 98.5 percent, which is far above the target of 85 percent. This means it not only passed the test but set a new benchmark," Nawfal stated.

Despite the impressive results, Nawfal emphasized that robots will not immediately replace surgeons, but it is very likely that the future of medical teams will include robots as "a very expensive metal assistant."

"Out of 137 surgeries, only two cases required classical surgical solutions - one due to a robot malfunction, and the other due to specific patient complications," Nawfal noted, raising the question of how much robotic technologies will shape the medical industry in the coming years.
