(Patria) - One of Elon Musk's ideas when taking over Twitter, or the X platform as he has since renamed the network, is the development of a so-called app for everything, reports Zimo.hr.
Following the example of China's WeChat, Musk wants X to be much more than just a social network, and his ambitions are moving towards a financial service, a video platform, a communication application, etc.
As part of this plan, Musk has introduced a beta version of the X app for televisions. It is initially available for Android TV, Google TV, Amazon Fire TV, and LG TV (webOS) devices, but it seems it is not yet available to all users of these devices.
Also, it is not yet available on Samsung smart TVs or Apple TV.
However, as Musk announced that X TV could soon be available on more devices, it can be assumed that owners of the mentioned devices will also be able to download this application.
Access to content on X TV requires a profile on Musk's social network, of course, and the application will display various videos determined by the algorithm based on your previous activity.
Users will also be able to access some original shows in the app, such as Tucker Carlson's show, and content from Tesla and SpaceX.
Also available are options like Replay TV and Startover TV, as well as Free Cloud DVR, through which users can store up to 100 hours of recorded content.
The app description on the Play Store states that X TV can replace traditional set-top boxes by offering a diverse selection of live channels, including movies, music, news, sports, and weather.
It is also added that this platform brings a new experience of accessing content on X, with unique content that will be available on living room televisions.
Although Musk has only just announced the availability of the beta version of X for televisions, this application has been available for several days.
The first reviews and user impressions are not so positive, especially regarding the recommended content they are shown, but since it is a beta version, it is clear that we can expect improvements over time.
In addition to giving users another way to access this platform, the company hopes it will be another place where advertisers can place their ads, which should also affect the platform's advertising revenue.
This revenue has been in sharp decline since Musk took over the company, which is why the owner of the company recently even filed a lawsuit against some large companies that, according to the indictment, illegally colluded to boycott his platform, which has resulted in billions of dollars in financial losses for X.
