(Patria) - Representatives of Europe's largest low-cost airline Ryanair and Sarajevo International Airport today presented a plan for future cooperation, which includes the introduction of new flights to five destinations.
Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk announced that from spring, there will be flights from Sarajevo to Milan, Brussels, Gothenburg, Memmingen, and London.
"Direct routes from Sarajevo to Europe are key to strengthening the economy, culture, and political cooperation. They facilitate the rapid exchange of ideas, boost trade, thereby building bridges between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Europe. Direct routes from Sarajevo to Europe provide young people with opportunities for better education, mobility, and connection with different cultures and perspectives, opening doors for future opportunities and the growth of young talents," Uk stated.
The director of Sarajevo International Airport, Alan Bajić, addressed the attendees.
"It is an exceptional pleasure for me to be here today to announce that one of Europe's largest airlines is taking off from Sarajevo International Airport and that we have new destinations that Ryanair will provide. I say the largest European company because it flies to 40 countries, 230 airports, and has over 3,000 operations daily," said Bajić.
One of Ryanair's directors, Jason McGuinness, stated that with the five new flights, they will transport 200,000 passengers annually.
"For too long, Sarajevo has been besieged by expensive air carriers. Today, that is changing. Every one of us is overjoyed that we will start in April with new routes," he said.
