Meta has a new AI model

(Patria) - Meta has introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) model, Muse Spark, which is advertised as smarter and faster than what it offered before reorganizing its Superintelligence Labs unit.

"Over the past nine months, Meta Superintelligence Labs has rebuilt our AI stack from the ground up," the tech titan said in a blog post, AFP reported.
Muse Spark succeeds Llama 4, which the Silicon Valley-based firm introduced a year ago, and will power Meta's AI application and smart glasses, along with features on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

For now, Muse Spark is only available in the United States.
The new AI model is described as small and fast by design, capable of reasoning through complex questions in science, mathematics, and healthcare. It is the first in the new Muse series, with the next generation already in development.

Llama 4 lagged behind in the fierce AI race as heavyweights from China, France, and the United States produced improved models at a rapid pace.
This prompted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to reorganize his AI team, leading to the departure of research head Yann LeCun.
LeCun spent twelve years leading Meta's AI lab, where Zuckerberg prioritized the pursuit of "superintelligence".

Zuckerberg launched a major recruitment campaign last year to attract talent for Meta's efforts, bringing in Scale AI co-founder Alexander Wang and placing him at the head of a newly formed unit called Superintelligence Labs.

Zuckerberg then recruited executives from rivals OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google – often personally and at great expense.

This marked a break from the company's previous approach, which prioritized the development of free, open AI models like Llama.

"The future of Meta AI is rooted in the relationships and context that are already at the center of your life," the company said.

"We are building towards personal superintelligence – an AI that not only answers your questions but truly understands your world because it is built on it."
