Melilla is a European town located in Africa

(Patria) - Have you heard of Melilla? It is a Spanish enclave covering about 12 square kilometers along the Mediterranean coast, completely surrounded by Morocco.

Although located on the African mainland, it is part of the European Union. Furthermore, Melilla and Ceuta are the only two territories of the European Union in Africa, writes Punkufer.hr.

Melilla today has autonomous status. In it, you can see influences from numerous cultures, from the ancient Phoenicians through the Byzantines to the Visigoths.

It has a beautiful historic core - Melilla la Vieja, surrounded by magnificent walls, but also numerous stunning beaches. However, few people visit it for tourism.

Due to its specific geographical location, it is often a target for emigrants seeking to enter the EU illegally. For the same reason, high fences have been erected on the border between Morocco and Melilla.

However, they cannot prevent the desperate actions of desperate people seeking a chance for a new life, even at the cost of their own.

The team from the YouTube channel Yes Theory checked out what life is like in Melilla, spending 50 hours in this strange European town on the African continent.
