Law Violation: Retail Stores Operating Normally in West Herzegovina Today

(Patria) - Citizens could see today, by the example of stores, that the laws of the Federation of BiH do not apply in the West Herzegovina Canton.

Namely, on Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd, in accordance with the provisions of Article 18, Paragraph (3) of the Law on Internal Trade of FBiH, retail stores are prohibited from operating during holidays.

While retail stores were closed in Mostar, just a few kilometers away in Široki Brijeg, retail stores were operating during their regular working hours.

Proof comes from a retail store in the village of Knešpolje near Široki Brijeg, which is open today during its regular working hours.

While market and tourism inspectors of the Cantonal Inspectorate Administrations in KS and ZDK are intensifying supervision, such an impression is not gained in ZHK. Just a few days ago, we published that certain entities had even announced on their official websites that their retail stores would be open on Friday, May 2nd. These are mostly retail stores in the areas of Široki Brijeg, Međugorje, Ljubuški, Čitluk, Tomislavgrad, Livno, Posušje, Grude...

In response to Vijesti.ba, the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs stated that the federal market inspectorate will be present in the field during these days and that fines prescribed by law will be imposed on all those who do not comply with the provisions of the Law”.

For non-compliance with the aforementioned legal provisions, sanctions are prescribed ranging from KM 2,000.00 to KM 15,000.00 for a legal entity, from KM 500.00 to KM 1,500.00 for a responsible person in a legal entity, and from KM 500.00 to KM 1,500.00 for a merchant individual.

In the coming days, we will check how many inspections have been carried out in this area and how many fines have been imposed.
