(Patria) - A new study has been published that questions the link between alcohol and lifespan.
Data shows that just two alcoholic drinks per week can shorten life by three to six days.
These are the results reached by Dr. Tim Stockwell, a scientist at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research, after five years of research.
For those who frequently consume alcoholic beverages, the numbers are even worse.
If a person drinks seven alcoholic beverages per week, whether it's beer, wine, or spirits, they risk shortening their lifespan by two and a half months.
According to the study, a person who drinks 35 alcoholic beverages per week can shorten their lifespan by as much as two years.
Dr. Stockwell long believed it was okay to have an occasional alcoholic drink if consumed in moderation.
However, he then saw major flaws in medical research that supported this. His five-year study proved the opposite.
"Alcohol is our favorite recreational drug. We use it for pleasure and relaxation, and the last thing we want to hear is that it causes any harm.
It's comforting to think that alcohol is good for our health, but unfortunately, research shows otherwise," Dr. Stockwell told the Daily Mail.
