(Patria) - The world's highest bridge has passed final load tests and is ready for opening.
The bridge in China, almost three kilometers long, connects Liuzhi and Anlong and will shorten a journey that previously took an hour to just 90 seconds.
In addition to its traffic function, it is expected to become a major tourist attraction - a glass walkway will be installed on the bridge.
Visitors will also be offered extreme sports such as bungee jumping and paragliding, all with a view of the spectacular canyon, also known as the "Earth's Rift".
This is the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in China's Guizhou province, an impressive suspension bridge that rises 625 meters above the Beipan River.
Although the Guinness Book of Records distinguishes between "highest" (from roadway level to ground/river/sea) and "highest by structure", the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, with a height of 625 meters from the roadway to the bottom of the gorge, now holds the title of the world's highest bridge.
The previous record holder was also the Chinese Duge Bridge, about 200 kilometers upstream, while the title of the highest bridge by structure remains with the French Millau Viaduct.
The official opening of the bridge is expected at the end of this month.
