(Patria) - Cambodia has called for a ceasefire with Thailand, AFP reported on Friday, citing Chhea Kea, the country's ambassador to the United Nations, Reuters reported last night.
"Cambodia has requested an immediate ceasefire - unconditionally - and we also call for a peaceful resolution of the dispute," AFP stated in a post on X, quoting Kea, who made the statement after a closed-door UN Security Council meeting attended by Cambodia and Thailand.
Thailand and Cambodia exchanged heavy artillery fire for the second day in a row on Friday as border clashes intensified and spread, and the Cambodian leader said Thailand had agreed to a Malaysian ceasefire proposal but then backed out.
