(Patria) - If you've ever wondered what the world looks like from a polar bear's perspective, an interesting video can give you a good insight.

Scientists have announced they were astonished after reviewing 115 hours of footage captured by cameras attached to the animals, which recorded everything around them during their wanderings in Canada.

In addition to giving us a deeper understanding of what it's like to move on all fours, the clips also highlight how intelligent these creatures actually are.

The fact is that this species has been severely affected by the effects of climate change in recent years and is now considered "vulnerable" by the IUCN's polar bear specialist group.

Vast amounts of sea ice are melting due to global warming, which poses a major problem for polar bears. Given that seals are the primary food source for these large fluffy animals, the lack of sea ice is indeed a problem for their survival.

According to WWF, polar bears use sea ice for resting and breeding. It is now melting earlier in the spring and forming later in the fall, and the consequences of this are problematic.

They are now forced to spend more time on land, but they find it difficult to access high-calorie food. As a result, they are becoming thinner.

To understand their survival methods, scientists attached cameras to 20 of them. For three years, they observed footage of the bears eating, sleeping, hunting, and playing.

They saw them feeding on bird carcasses, chewing berries and grass, feeding on marine animals, and fighting each other in the water.

Anthony Pagano, a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and lead author of the study, previously told Vox that they were amazed by what they saw.

"The footage showed how intelligent these animals are. They use various behavioral strategies to survive on land without access to their primary prey," he told LAD Bible.

Scientists also found that polar bears are swimming longer distances in search of food, which is "unexpected for this time of year."

"These may be desperate measures. Hungry and thin bears take more risks than fat ones," says Andrew Derocher, an expert from the University of Alberta.

Essentially, eating berries and smaller prey is not enough to satisfy a polar bear. Their population in the observed area is estimated to have fallen by 30 percent since 1987, and this study appears to confirm that global warming will continue to make survival difficult for the species.
