Banknotes of 10, 20, 50 and 100 KM from the 1998-2009 period are being withdrawn, they can be used until the end of December

(Patria) - The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced the withdrawal from circulation of convertible mark banknotes in denominations of 10, 20, 50, and 100 KM from the 1998–2009 period.

These banknotes will be usable for payments until December 31, 2024, while from January 1, 2025, they will cease to be legal tender and will be subject exclusively to exchange, as stated on the website of the Central Bank of BiH.

Banknotes of these denominations that remain in circulation differ by the protective micro-optical thread “Motion™”, which is not present on the old issues. Based on this security feature, it is easy to distinguish banknotes that remain valid from those being withdrawn from circulation.

The goal of this change is to increase the quality of banknotes in circulation and strengthen protection against counterfeiting. The exchange of withdrawn banknotes in 2025 will be carried out in commercial banks, while after the deadline in commercial banks, the exchange will be taken over by the Central Bank of BiH, for a period of ten years, starting from January 1, 2026.

The 200 KM denomination banknotes remain in circulation and are not subject to this withdrawal process.
