(Patria) - The iPhone 16 was the best-selling smartphone in the world in the first quarter of 2025, according to a report by analytical firm Counterpoint Research.
This brings the basic iPhone model back to the first place on the global charts after a two-year break.
The largest sales growth for the iPhone 16 was recorded in Japan, and it also performed well in the Middle East and Africa.
According to Counterpoint, growth in Japan was driven by more favorable economic conditions and new mobile operator subsidy rules that benefited Apple.
Apple took a total of five spots among the top ten best-selling phones.
Following the iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is in second place, the iPhone 16 Pro in third, and last year's iPhone 15 in fourth place. The iPhone 16 Plus is in tenth place.
Samsung has four devices in the top 10. The Galaxy A16 5G finished in fifth place, thanks to strong demand in North America and Asia.
The Galaxy A06, their most affordable model, jumped to sixth place as customers increasingly sought devices under 100 euros. Seventh is the Galaxy S25 Ultra, their new flagship, while the Galaxy A55 5G took ninth place.
The only model among the top ten best-sellers that is not from Apple or Samsung is the Redmi 14C 4G from Xiaomi, which finished in eighth place thanks to significant sales growth in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.
